چکیده

Cor triatriatum is the term given to a rare congenital abnorTnality of the heart in which a septum separates what is apparently one of the atria into upper posterior and lower anterior chambers. With few exceptions, the septum has always been present on the left side of the heart. Other names given to the same anomaly naturally reflect the authors' views concerning the nature and origin of the extra chamber. Thus Loeffler (1949) reported his case as a 'heart with pulmonary sinus' and Edwards, Du Shane, Alcott and Burchell (1951) have referred to 'stenosis of the common pulmonary vein'. From the functional aspect, three varieties of the condition have been described (Loeffler, 1949). In one, there is no communication between the accessory chamber and the left atrium. Death is inevitable immediately after delivery unless there is some other anomaly allowing blood to escape from the accessory chamber as in Case 3 of Edwards et al. (1951). At the other extreme there is an opening in the septum which is relatively large so that there is little or no obstruction to the flow of blood through the left side of the heart as in the patients of Loeffier (1949) and of Griffith (1903). In the intermediate variety the communication between the accessory chamber and the left atrium consists of one or more small openings which offer considerable obstruction to blood flow. The following is the report of a patient who comes into this last category.

BACKGROUND Cor triatriatum is a rare congenital cardiac abnormality, consisting of an obstructing membrane between the pulmonary veins and the mitral valve in varying patterns. The entitiy can mimick the pathophysiology of mitral stenosis, necessitating surgical resection. Occasionally, percutaneous balloon dilatation of the membrane has been successfully performed. CASE PRESENTATION We repor...

Cor Triatriatum Sinistrum Presenting as Cyanotic Congenital Heart Disease A Rare Case Report

Cor triatriatum is an acyanotic congenital heart disease. We present a rare case of cor triatriatum sinistrum in a 6-month-old female infant who was presented with cyanosis and failure to thrive. The 2D transthoracic echocardiography and the Doppler color flow imaging showed a proximal venous chamber communicating to the distal left atrium  through restrictive opening to the low-pressure, dis...

A Very Rare Case of Co-Existence of Cor Triatriatum Sinister and Left Pulmonary Vein Atresia.

Cor triatriatum sinister (CTS) is a rare congenital abnormality. Clinical presentation of patients with CTS mainly depends on the anatomic features of membrane and may vary from mild or moderate symptoms mimicking mitral stenosis to more severe and complicated cardioembolic stroke or a new onset heart failure. We herein have reported on a young male who presented with the signs and symptoms of ...

[Cor triatriatum dexter of an adult].

Cor triatriatum dexter is a rare congenital malformation in which a membrane divides the right atrium into two chambers. The membrane represents a persistence of the right sinus venosus valve (RSV). Normally the RSV regresses between the 9th and 15th week of gestation, as the cephalic portion forms the crista terminalis and the caudal portion develops into the Eustachian and Thebesian valve. An...
